Beyond Time

Time shapes life on earth. The concept of timeless eternity is beyond my grasp. So a verse like this one rocks my equilibrium: “Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them” (Psalm 139:16).

And this one: “…He chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him” (Ephesians 1:4).

Our God exists in timeless eternity. He executes His design and purposes outside of time. But His design and purpose includes us. We are at the heart of His heart. He, Who dwells in limitless wisdom, power and knowledge, oversees my unformed substance. Before my conception, before sperm penetrated egg, and before He created the foundation of the world, He had already chosen me to be in Christ. Holy and blameless in His sight.

Our eternal, all-knowing God knows my life, day by day, before those days come to me and I live them out. My days are written in His book, a book written beyond time.

Eternal Father-God, You knew me before time. An eternal journal of my life existed in the ages before I was born. Before time You placed me in Christ and saw me, forgave and cleansed me. Father, enable me to soak deeply in this reality. Help me to live more fully in this beautiful mystery.

As I mark my time on earth, day after day, before I enter eternity with You, grace me to walk in confidence: You know me, my days are written in Your book and I am holy and blameless in Your sight in Christ. Thank You, thank You.

I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but You do. You have “formed” days for me. My future is not arbitrary, not chance. I am not an accident. I don’t know why You favored me or why You made me as You did. But You made me and my days to bring You glory and to further Your intention. I don’t deserve any of this, but may it be so.
